Assunta’s History

1954: Four Sister from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary started a tiny clinic in Section 4, Petaling Jaya.

1955: Funds were raised for the construction of a new clinic, maternity home and Convent.

1959: Through generous contributions and support of the late Tun Leong Yew Koh, the vision for a general hospital was put forward.

1960: The Department of Obstetrics recorded over a thousand deliveries.

1961: Former Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dato’ Ong Yoke Lim (now Tun Omar Ong Yoke Lim), officially opened the hospital. Health visits to villages and squatter areas began as a community service initiative.

1967: The Tun Tan Cheng Lock School of Nursing was officially opened by the first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

1971: The hospital treated a total of 1,339,950 patients with a small team of dedicated our_team.

1974: The Assunta Foundation was incorporated on the 31 December 1973.

1988: Sister Regina Rocke and Sister Mary Kristin Ng were sent overseas to train as student pastoral carers. They later pioneered the Pastoral Care Department.

1994: Day Surgery Unit began operations.

1996: The first hospital in Malaysia to be awarded the ISO 9002 Certification.


At the Start of a New Millennia

2004: Assunta Hospital Celebrated its Golden Jubilee. Accreditation by the Malaysian Society of Quality in Health (MSQH) and the National Creativity & Innovation Award.

2008: Passionately PINK was initiated to raise public awareness of breast cancer.

2009: Passionately YOU replaced Passionately PINK to champion breast and cervical cancer.

2010: Passionately YOU wins Hospital Management Award. The new Assunta Palliative Care Centre (AsPaCC) was launched.

2012: The Paediatric and surgical wards were renovated with new and improved facilities.

2013: you@Assunta, an iOS mobile app for booking of health screening packages, was launched.

2014: Assunta Celebrates its 60th Anniversary.
